so we think it's about time we hear from some other people out there and we get this dialogue going. so with that we ask:

1) who the hell are you?
2) what's in your lomographic arsenal?
3) how long have you been familiar with lomography? how were you introduced?
4) what is your proudest lomograph?
5) of the 10 rules, which one best applies to your personal style of shooting?
6) how do you explain lomography to people who have no knowledge of what it is?
7) any other tasty bits of information you would like to share with your fellow lomographers here in LA?

To Spread the Word About Lomography in Los Angeles...

Hi! My name is Margarete or as aforementioned by Jeff a.k.a the queen of knowing of everything cool that is currently going down in L.A. I can't say I know EVERYTHING going on in L.A. but I do like to keep tabs on events in the Los Angeles area. From now on, I'll be updating the blog about events in L.A. us lomo lovers can unite at and have a good time. Through this blog, we can start forming groups to go to these events. Hopefully, afterwards, we can put up pictures from our lomo cameras, of course, and share them with others! :)

**My Introduction: I'm really honored that Jeff and Tony included me in this blog. I love to organize events and get out in Los Angeles and have amazing adventures! I'm also 21 but I attend U.C.L.A. I guess we're proving against all odds that Trojans and a Bruin can co-exist peacefully, and in this case, with a little help from our common love for lomography. I'm majoring in English and minoring in Art History. I'm interested in a career in 'education' but still discovering career options. Currently, I work at one of the best jobs EVER. I'm an educator at the Fowler museum located on U.C.L.A.'s campus. If you're ever interested in a tour, let me know. :)
***My History with Lomography: I guess Tony and I have to thank Jeff for introducing us to the wonderful world of lomography. He helped Tony and I purchase our firs
t lomo camera, the Holga. I have yet to develop my 7-8 rolls of film but it will happen soon! I also feel a little empty when I have no more rolls of film because I can't carry it around to take pictures at my own leisure. The thing I love most about lomography is it opens up my perspective on my environment. I'm pretty non-observant: meaning a bit spacey and have a tendency to get trapped into my own little world. But with my Holga, I'm able to open up my eyes and look at things in a different perspective. Also, I'm planning this amazing trip to Europe this summer (studying in Spain for a month and then traveling to Italy and London) and think my camera will help me see various countries in an entirely different, unique way. :) One last thing, I'm obsessed with Polaroid pictures!

for the love of polaroid

yes, it may be a tad on the expensive side (even when bought in bulk), but who doesn't love shooting polaroids? what can be more satisfying then the instant gratification each of our little boxes of wonders provide for us all?

but as i'm sure everyone is more then aware of already, polaroids shall cease to exist by the end of the year. or will they?

it's nothing definite as of now, but apparently there is talk going on between polaroid and ilford with regards to ilford producing poladoid's black and white film. though the talks are still in their earlier stages, we can only hope for the best. if you want to read up on the article, you can check it out here.

but if you can't just sit back and let the fate of our beloved instant film be left to the suits, you can join a legion already 17,000 strong and sign an online petition. PETITION

so our good friend margarete (aka the queen of knowing of everything cool that is currently going down in LA) is currently compiling a list of different events that shall be happening in the near future around the city. so we'll be sure to post that list as soon as we get it. but in the mean time, if anyone here knows of anything fun and exciting... do tell.

and i don't know if anyone else checks the lomography website as religiously as i do, but tomorrow night is the opening of a photo exhibit that is sponsored in part by lomography. the show is up till the 30th, but the opening reception is going down tomorrow (saturday the 5th) from 6
-9 at Gallery Revisited up on sunset avenue.

for more information you can find everything you need to know at their website: http://12x36.com/home.html

and from what i hear, the lomographic society was nice enough to send over some cameras that will be on sale (dalek supersamplers, diana+, and colorsplash).

so come check it out and mingle. me and my buddy derek are going to be there for sure; tony's a maybe. and if you make it out there, be sure to check out Dusty Bistro right across the street. it's a sweet little french bistro with some amazing food.

till next time, lomo on LA

Misinformation

Geoffery's unplanned decision to explain himself has left me looking the fool, so I am now forced to tell you about the things that make me:

My name is Tony. I'm 21. My official residence is about five minutes from Jeff's while my temporary housing coincides spatially and temporally with his. I too am a student at the University of Southern California, and if you'll please excuse my paraphrase of Immortal, it don't mean shit to me to slit a bruin's throat. I currently am working toward a Masters in Marine and Environmental Biology, B.A. Biological Sciences, and minor in Cinema-Television. I don't really know what I'm going to do after I graduate; I may pursue a PhD, I may get into documentary film making, or I may pursue a career in music. That reminds me: I also play multiple instruments, study theory, and write music in my own time. So if anyone is interested in playing together let me know and perhaps we can rock out with our cocks out, though my farm's a bit out of the way.

As for my lomographic history, last October (or thereabouts), after a talk with Jeff regarding my interests in photography (or at least my lack thereof in digital photography) he recommended me to the Holga. Needless to say, I liked it. I liked it a lot. Perhaps I was even quite obsessed. I pointed, I clicked, and everything was right with the world. Within a few weeks I ordered a lot of 5 Russian cameras (one of which was tragically though temporarily decommissioned two weeks ago) and it has been a beautiful downward spiral ever since. My cameras have become like an extra limb, and though they may not be as useful as my third arm they are far more important to me.

Well, that about sums me up for now.
It's just like we've known each other our whole lives.

proper introduction

so thinking about this i figured the best way to get it started is with a sort of ice breaker, so here we go:

my name is jeff. i'm 21 and from the greater los angeles area (for those more familiar i'm from harbor area to be specific). currently i'm a student at USC, majoring in fine arts with an emphasis in photography. i'm aspiring to get into the photo biz, nothing specific really but i'm especially drawn to documentary and photo journalism. maybe i can break into that someday.

to bring in the benjamins i slang coffee at star
bucks. not the most exciting or ideal job, but i love the people i work with which makes it more then enjoyable. most of our usual customers are chill, but when i have to deal with an asshole i just think about my paycheck and tips.

i came across lomography about three or three and a half years ago or so. i really don't remember the specifics, but i do know i stumbled up toycamera.com and was introduced to the holga and diana. and from there i did some research which eventually led me to lomography. so yeah, after looking into it for a while i finally got my first camera, the fisheye 2 (which sadly has since been lost). but since then i've amassed a small collection and most of the time you'll find one or more of them on my person. i get lazy at times when it comes to actually developing my pictures, but i just got a film scanner so hopefully that will give me a little more incentive to get them developed as soon as i finish the roll.

that's really all i can think of for now.

so yeah, tell me about yourself.

and so it begins...

so this blog is the lovechild of me (lomocore) and my current roommate (caseyjonesthird).

we all know lomography is a global communication project through photography. this is just our attempt to think globally while acting locally.

we want this blog to allow us lomographers in the los angeles area to connect with each other and share our photographs. but we hope that this socializing will extend beyond lomography and the blog itself. know of an interesting event or planning one yourself? let us know. got some sweet photographs from a recent shoot? send them on over and we'll post them. have some tricks/tips you just can't keep to yourself? tell us all about them. got a question? feel free to ask.

our main goal is to just get a dialogue going on here in LA, both online and in person, through lomography.

so load some cheap film, get trigger happy, don't think and just shoot
