it's Warhol actually...

so i know this is a little preemptive, but i just found out about this and just can't keep the good news to myself...

but on february 25th (and running through april 18th), the Fisher Museum at USC is going to have a photography exhibit consisting of it's newly inherited collection of andy warhol photographs. the museum aquired 100 polaroids and 50 B/W gelatin prints which it recently recieved from the Andy Warhold Photographic Legacy Program. there aren't many other details about the show just yet but i'm sure more will be divulged as the exhibit gets closer.


i don't know how early everyone else marks down events in there calendar, but i can tell you i already have this one in mine. i'll be sure to post again if i hear anything more about it and will post a reminder of the show when we get closer to february.

SUMMER EVENT!

So, I've been totally behind on the events. :( I'm leaving for my trip in 3 days!!! But I wanted to share one last event posting before I leave. (And no worries, I'll be sure to make up for my absence and severe lack of postings when I get back with lots of lovely L.A. events! :) ):

(Also) JazzPOP also returns to the Hammer over three consecutive Thursdays this summer, with three different takes on the jazz sextet/septet that draw inspiration from prog rock, Motown, free jazz, psychedelic pop, and folksy Americana. I went to 3 out of the 4 free concerts last year and I totally recommend it! I would also recommend getting there a little earlier than the scheduled time because sometimes they reach full capacity and will cut the line off. This year's line-up includes Nico Vega, The Deadly Syndrome, The Duke Spirit, and Tokyo Police Club.

so it's been too long since we've updated you on the happenings in the area. but i can't take credit for this one, this is all maria. so much thanks goes out to her.



the flier is pretty self explanatory i know, but it's a toy camera show out in irvine. since i also know the picture quality isn't too great, the address is 14321 yale ave., irvine CA, 92604.

hope people can make it out. sadly i can't guarantee that i will be there myself (damned work schedule), but it's definitely a priority. if i am, carpooling would definitely be an option for anyone else interested in going.

new toy

so in an attempt to be more productive i decided to update the blog and put off my paper. and i just can't keep good news to myself so i felt like sharing it with all of you.

i was online earlier and came across this little beauty available at Freestyle Photographic Supplies now:

it's a holga fisheye lens that apparently is made entirely of plastic. now i know there is already another fisheye lens available for holgas, the thing is that this beautiful piece of plastic will only set you back $25 (versus about $70 for the other one). you can check it out here for more details. here's a shot Freestyle provides

To Spread the Word About Lomography in Los Angeles...

Hi! My name is Margarete or as aforementioned by Jeff a.k.a the queen of knowing of everything cool that is currently going down in L.A. I can't say I know EVERYTHING going on in L.A. but I do like to keep tabs on events in the Los Angeles area. From now on, I'll be updating the blog about events in L.A. us lomo lovers can unite at and have a good time. Through this blog, we can start forming groups to go to these events. Hopefully, afterwards, we can put up pictures from our lomo cameras, of course, and share them with others! :)

**My Introduction: I'm really honored that Jeff and Tony included me in this blog. I love to organize events and get out in Los Angeles and have amazing adventures! I'm also 21 but I attend U.C.L.A. I guess we're proving against all odds that Trojans and a Bruin can co-exist peacefully, and in this case, with a little help from our common love for lomography. I'm majoring in English and minoring in Art History. I'm interested in a career in 'education' but still discovering career options. Currently, I work at one of the best jobs EVER. I'm an educator at the Fowler museum located on U.C.L.A.'s campus. If you're ever interested in a tour, let me know. :)
***My History with Lomography: I guess Tony and I have to thank Jeff for introducing us to the wonderful world of lomography. He helped Tony and I purchase our first lomo camera, the Holga. I have yet to develop my 7-8 rolls of film but it will happen soon! I also feel a little empty when I have no more rolls of film because I can't carry it around to take pictures at my own leisure. The thing I love most about lomography is it opens up my perspective on my environment. I'm pretty non-observant: meaning a bit spacey and have a tendency to get trapped into my own little world. But with my Holga, I'm able to open up my eyes and look at things in a different perspective. Also, I'm planning this amazing trip to Europe this summer (studying in Spain for a month and then traveling to Italy and London) and think my camera will help me see various countries in an entirely different, unique way. :) One last thing, I'm obsessed with Polaroid pictures!

for the love of polaroid

yes, it may be a tad on the expensive side (even when bought in bulk), but who doesn't love shooting polaroids? what can be more satisfying then the instant gratification each of our little boxes of wonders provide for us all?

but as i'm sure everyone is more then aware of already, polaroids shall cease to exist by the end of the year. or will they?

it's nothing definite as of now, but apparently there is talk going on between polaroid and ilford with regards to ilford producing poladoid's black and white film. though the talks are still in their earlier stages, we can only hope for the best. if you want to read up on the article, you can check it out here.

but if you can't just sit back and let the fate of our beloved instant film be left to the suits, you can join a legion already 17,000 strong and sign an online petition. PETITION

so our good friend margarete (aka the queen of knowing of everything cool that is currently going down in LA) is currently compiling a list of different events that shall be happening in the near future around the city. so we'll be sure to post that list as soon as we get it. but in the mean time, if anyone here knows of anything fun and exciting... do tell.

and i don't know if anyone else checks the lomography website as religiously as i do, but tomorrow night is the opening of a photo exhibit that is sponsored in part by lomography. the show is up till the 30th, but the opening reception is going down tomorrow (saturday the 5th) from 6-9 at Gallery Revisited up on sunset avenue.
