Hope the holidays have been treating everyone well. So there are a couple things in the works as we speak. Just finalizing a couple things and we should be rolling strong into the new year.
First we're hoping to have the next meet-up in the next couple weeks. One thing that might help make the planning a little easier is if everyone let's us know what days work best for them (or what days don't work). And secondly we're going to be having a month-long competition for January. Just putting the final touches on that as well. And as incentive, the winner of the competition will receive a shiny old camera (thanks to Herb). We'll definitely be keeping you posted on these.
Await our signal!

A Challenge To You

So I was on LSI's website today doing some reconnaissance, and came across this. Look familiar? It should. It's our humble abode, tucked away along the golden shores of the Pacific. But what's wrong with the picture?
A lack of smog?
Inaccurate geographic detail?
No depiction of traffic whatsoever?
No, I think it's that little green dot hovering over Anaheim. That single dot gracing our landscape. That's right. In all of Southern California there is only one LomoLocation to be found. And of all places, Disneyland (as if we needed to be stereotyped anymore than we already are).
Now I'm not pointing fingers (isn't there that phrase that says something along the lines that if you point a finger at someone, you point three at yourself?), but I think something needs to be done about this right away. Let's call it a collective New Years Resolution. I challenge us all to turn things around and put Southern California on the LomoLocation Map (literally).
I propose we make it our year-long goal to contribute as many locations to the Map as we can. And as a bonus incentive, let's say a prize will go to the person who single-handedly contributes the most locations by the end of the year. Not entirely sure what the prize will be, but since this is such an epic endeavor I'll have to make sure that the prize is equally, if not more, epic than all the locations submitted.
I think something like this will potentially catch LSI's eye and prove that we here in LA are pretty serious when it comes to not taking photography seriously.

Just a Bad Ass
I can't exactly think of how to link this to Lomography (or analog photography in general), so I'm not going to even try and BS a connection.
But Charlie White has some new work posted and taking a stroll on over to his site should prove to be worth your while. If you're wondering why I'm pointing him out, it's because I got to rep the alma mater and have a man-crush on him. He's the director of the Fine Arts Masters program at USC and was generous enough to be our guest critique for my photography classes show (which turned into probably the single most academically significant event of my career at USC). He's a terribly smart guy and really talented artist, for someone who works digitally that is.

Goals for the New Year:
- read more about photography and art (especially contemporary work)
- post more on the blog
- take even more photos
- get a legit medium format camera (sweet Jesus I want one so bad)
- attend more gallery/museum openings
- collaborate with fellow artists
- get back into the darkroom
- kick ass at my internships

Coffee Time
It's finally break for everyone it seems.
So come join us for some coffee and food over in Long Beach at Portfolio Coffee House this Friday around noon. And it's in a pretty sweet neighborhood so we'll probably walk around for a little while and check out the local shops as well (so brings those cameras just in case this turns into an adventure).
